History
For nearly 50 years Jim has practiced law in Centerville, eight of those years as the County Attorney. During this time he has been active in County and State Bar Associations and the University of Iowa alumni activities as well as farming and ranching. He has received many awards and recognition in these areas including Soil Conservation and purebred cattle. He served on many boards of directors for local organizations and civic projects. Jim and his wife Mary were honored as the 2000 Centerville Citizens of the Year. In 2001 Jim Milani received the Iowa State Bar Association Community Service Award. In 2004 Jim Milani was awarded the Centerville Distinguished Alumni Award.
In addition to practicing law, Jim was an outstanding athlete. He set several state High School football marks including, a season rushing record of 1,886 yards in 171 carries (11.03 yards per rush). He was named All-State and honorable mention All-American. In his senior campaign Jim scored 146 of the team's 200 scored points. Jim then received the Nile Kinnick Academic Scholarship at the University of Iowa and started for the Hawkeyes at running back as a sophomore. Jim set state and national marks in low hurdles and lettered in both track and football at the University of Iowa.
Milani enrolled at the University of Iowa in the fall of 1951 and graduated after the fall term of 1957 with a B.A. (Economics) and J.D. Milani was also commissioned 2nd Lt. Inf., R.O.T.C. (DMS). Milani was president of his Senior class in both undergraduate and Law School, as well president of both his social and legal fraternities.
